Marketing for rental companies
We run two rental businesses ourselves. Every approach we recommend to you, we have tested with our own money first.
Why Stijgt
We are in the rental business ourselves
Alongside Stijgt we run Djunes, one of the largest photo booth and event hire companies in the Netherlands, and Rijruimer, our roof box hire business. We built Djunes from nothing into a company with more than ten employees. We did, and still do, the marketing ourselves, at every stage.
That is how we know how rental works: an empty Saturday never comes back, much of the revenue sits in following up enquiries, and Google Ads only optimises properly once it can see the booking. You do not learn that from a course, but from your own diary.
We keep testing and improving, for our own businesses and for our clients. What works for one, we apply to the other.
What we do for rental companies
- A page per product, location and occasion within your service area
- Google Ads within your radius, with bids per day and season
- Social advertising around the moments your customers make plans
- Price and availability visible straight away on the page
- Measurement of enquiry and booking in GA4 and your ad platforms
- Follow-up of enquiries and repeat bookings by email and WhatsApp
- Reviews and your Google Business Profile as a steady engine
- Visible in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews with GEO
What makes rental different
Six things an ordinary agency misses
A rental company is not an online shop. Treat marketing for rental as if it were about products in stock and you leave a lot on the table.
- 01
You sell dates, not stock
A Saturday in June can only be rented out once. Marketing therefore has to target the days and weeks that are still empty, not the days that fill up anyway.
- 02
Season and peak moments
Weddings, summer holidays, public holidays, ski season: demand swings sharply. Anyone who only starts advertising when it is busy pays top price and is too late.
- 03
A fixed service area
You deliver or let customers collect within a certain radius. Every click from outside that area is wasted money, and within that area every location, every product and every category deserves its own page.
- 04
An enquiry is not yet a booking
Much rental business runs through an enquiry, a quote or a WhatsApp conversation. That is where most revenue is lost: fast, good follow-up often delivers more than extra leads.
- 05
Bookings are measured poorly
The booking happens in your rental software or booking system, not on your site. Without a proper link, Google Ads cannot see which campaign really brings in revenue.
- 06
Customers come back, if you remind them
Someone who rents this year for a birthday or holiday has something to celebrate again next year. A fixed annual calendar with email and remarketing turns one-off renters into regular customers.
From our own experience
What we have learned in rental ourselves
No theory, but lessons from building our own rental businesses. They are in every approach we create for clients.
- 01
Answering an enquiry is not yet a sale
Most of it leaks away after the first reply. Ask straight away for the date, location and what someone wants to rent, and send the quote yourself. Do not refer people back to a form, because hardly anyone fills it in afterwards.
- 02
Focus on where you rent, and on what you rent
Every euro and every page belongs to the areas where you really deliver or let customers collect, not beyond them. And within that area every product and every category deserves its own attention: its own page, its own keywords and its own ads. Someone looking for a trailer does not want a general rental page, but exactly that trailer, in their own region.
- 03
Measure through to the booking, not the click
As long as Google Ads only sees clicks or forms, it optimises for the wrong campaigns. Only when the real booking comes back from your payment or rental system do you know what works. Ideally you arrange that before your first euro on ads.
- 04
Do not switch off, bid smarter
On quiet days and outside the season fewer enquiries come in, but they are not worth less. Bidding lower almost always works better than pausing campaigns altogether.
- 05
Ranking at the top is only the start
For many rental searches, ads and the map of local businesses sit above the first organic result, so SEO, Google Ads and your Business Profile have to work together. But a visitor is not yet a customer. Clear USPs on every page, a booking process without unnecessary steps and fast follow-up of every enquiry decide whether that visit becomes revenue. We look at the whole chain, from search to booking.
- 06
Optimise for customer value, not for one booking
A renter who comes back is worth far more than their first booking. Business customers in particular rent again every year around the same time. That is why we work with a customer’s lifetime value: it decides what a new customer may cost, and a simple annual calendar with a reminder often delivers more than extra ad budget.
- 07
Every growth stage needs different marketing
At the start it is all about being found and getting the first reviews. In the growth stage, about scaling per product and region. With a team on board, about processes, follow-up and returns. We have been through those stages ourselves.
Who it is for
For every company that rents out
Whether you rent out photo booths, trailers or construction machinery, the pattern is the same. A limited number of products, a diary that has to fill up and customers who search by product, location and date.
- Photo booth, party and event hire
- Car, van, campervan and trailer hire
- Roof boxes, bikes, boats and sloops
- Plant, tools and construction machinery
- Marquees, furniture and event equipment
- Lighting, sound and stage technology
Our approach
How we win you more bookings
- 01
Baseline
We map where your bookings come from now, what an enquiry is worth, which periods stay empty and where your competitors are found and you are not.
- 02
Annual calendar and service area
Together we decide which products, locations and seasons come first. We align budget, pages and campaigns to that.
- 03
Execution and measurement through to the booking
SEO, Ads and social go live with measurement that runs through to the booking. Accelerated with AI, checked by a strategist.
- 04
Adjusting on empty dates
Every week we look at what works. What brings in bookings gets more budget, and we move with the season and your diary.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about marketing for rental companies
Why a marketing agency that has rental businesses of its own?
Because we run into the same problems ourselves every day: empty weekdays, seasonal peaks, enquiries that are not followed up and bookings that are not measured properly. We built Djunes (photo booth and event hire) from nothing into a company with more than ten employees, and with Rijruimer (roof box hire) we started from scratch again. That is how we know every stage and test every approach with our own money first.
Do you also work for my competitors?
No. We work for at most one client within the same industry and region. What we research and build for you, we do not use for a direct competitor.
How do I get more bookings through my own website?
Make sure you are found for what people search for (product, location and occasion), that price and availability are visible straight away and that enquiring or booking takes as few steps as possible. Reviews on the page and fast follow-up of enquiries often make the biggest difference.
Does digital marketing also work for a small or local rental company?
Yes, especially. A local rental company has a clear service area, and within it the competition on Google is often manageable. With a page per location and ads that only run within your radius, you get a lot of return from a limited budget.
Should I still advertise if I am already fully booked in high season?
Less, but not nothing. In busy periods you can lower bids and shift budget to the periods and products that still have room. Organic visibility and reviews are built up all year round, so you start the next season stronger.
Can you measure bookings from my rental software?
In most cases, yes. We first look at how your booking system or rental software works and then link the booking to GA4 and your ad platforms. Where a direct link is not possible, we measure the enquiry and work with what an enquiry is worth on average.
I am just starting a rental company. Can you help?
Yes. We started Rijruimer ourselves from scratch in May 2026, with SEO, Google Ads and accurate measurement from day one. That way you know from the start which products and locations sell and where your budget delivers the most.
What does marketing for a rental company cost?
You pay a one-off set-up fee and then a fixed amount per month for management, which you can cancel monthly. For Google Ads we recommend an advertising budget of at least € 500 per month. In a free intro call we give an honest estimate for your situation.
How quickly will I see results?
With Google Ads and social advertising you often see the first bookings within a few weeks. SEO takes longer, a few months, but delivers more lasting growth. The best moment to start is well before your busy season.
